The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People (by Stephen R. Covey)

Yeas: Smart man, clearly defines steps to increase our effectiveness.
Nays: I would have liked to see more simplicity and less drawn out examples in some cases.
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People is an intruiging and deep read. Do not read this without knowing before hand that it is fairly involved and will require all of your attention. You cannot read this book and have any distractions around you or let your mind wander. The book is for those who really want to get in the deep end when it comes to the human condition and what can be done to increase the effectiveness of people.

I like the organization of the book. I like that examples are given. The focus on proactivity is a good thing. The advice about taking initiative and making things happen in life, rather than waiting for something to happen to us is something I am a firm believer in. It's good to see the author and his positive mental attitude about life.

The book is complex, and thus not for those who are looking for a simple guide. To get the most out of this book, at least for me, you have to read in spurts where you stop and really think about what was just read. The author appears to go overboard giving examples in cases where he's beat the topic like a dead horse. Still, being too through isn't a bad thing, it just makes for a longer, more drawn out read. If you want a simple guide, go find a well written summary of the book.

My final recommendation is that this book will help you if you go into it knowing that an extensive and thorough read is required to really get the most out of it. If you do this, I believe you will get the message of what the author is saying.
